Raheem Sterling Interested In MLS

There are plenty of footballers across the world that are capable of causing a ‘stir’ with their actions both on and off the pitch, because that’s just the nature of the beautiful game. With such an overwhelming interest in their day to day activities they’re bound to become ‘figures’ of sorts for people, and for the most part, that’s okay.

One player, in particular, who continues to receive a great deal of attention is Raheem Sterling. The Englishman has had quite a remarkable journey in the last few years, going from a perceived cocky youngster with Liverpool to one of the most exciting players in world football with Manchester City. In the present day he’s still widely considered to be one of City’s best players, which is quite the compliment when you consider just how good they’ve been in the last few years.

Notable issues

Of course, as reported by BBC, Raheem the Dream has had to deal with his fair share of racism issues too. That’s not what we’re here to talk about today, but we still felt like it was important enough to mention and bring up. At the end of the day, the kind of abuse that Sterling receives from the masses is nothing short of criminal. He is portrayed to be the villain by common racists and outrageous national newspapers alike, and we’re just fed up of seeing that kind of treatment. We all need to work together in order to ensure that this kind of behaviour is eradicated from the game – and it needs to happen sooner rather than later.

In coalition with that, though, it’s also worth noting that Raheem Sterling is an absolutely outstanding footballer (as we’ve already noted) and according to Goal.com, he has a few intriguing ambitions for his future in the game.

“English football has grown massively over here [the United States]. It wasn’t like that in the past, and it’ll continue to get bigger.

Positive steps

“I was surprised even just popping out to the shops and being recognised by one or two people. I didn’t expect that over here.

“This is a country I would, one day, love to be able to come to. Your weather is a lot better than ours. Hopefully one day I can have my family over here.”

There you have it, folks: Raheem Sterling is interested in one day playing in Major League Soccer. The interview itself is fascinating as Raheem actually talks about a series of issues including the ones we’ve already alluded to, but for a moment, just try and think about how important this supposedly off-handed comment could be. Raheem may not even be thinking about the possibility of playing over here right now but even if that truly is the case, we still believe it’s a great sign that he’s more than willing to open the door and see what happens.

He may not head over until he’s past his prime but even with that being the case, it feels like the MLS is progressively becoming more and more popular worldwide.
