Arsenal Need a Big Summer Transfer Window

Well, it’s been a pretty interesting season for Arsenal, hasn’t it? Things started off pretty optimistically to say the least, mainly because Arsene Wenger was no longer a part of the club. The Frenchman finally said goodbye after more than two decades in charge, and to be perfectly honest, it was a few years too late. Alas, it’s best not to dwell on the past, and with that in mind it was time to welcome Spaniard Unai Emery into the fold. Emery was able to utilise what he had in front of him during the summer transfer window last year (which wasn’t much), and built a squad that was fairly solid. It was touch and go regarding whether or not they’d make it into the top four, but either way, there was a certain degree of hope in the air at the Emirates.

Remaining hopeful

Now that we can reflect on the season itself, it’s interesting to note that while the hope remained throughout most of the season, there wasn’t quite as much pessimism. Fans are still a little bit over the top in some of their beliefs and that’s okay, because the growing pains in the post-Wenger era are going to last for a good few years.

The club missed out on the top four as we all know, meaning that their only hope, as reported by BBC, is winning the Europa League which they qualified for with a semi final triumph over Valencia.

That’s all well and good and everything, but the real concern needs to be focused on what the club are going to do during the upcoming summer window. It doesn’t seem as if there’s much of a plan in place and whilst it can be okay to wing it from time to time, we don’t necessarily condone that on a consistent basis.

As reported by Metro the likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner are already preparing to depart from the Emirates, and while he isn’t a consistent member of the starting XI, that isn’t really the point. The point is that Arsenal need strength in depth and they need options, which is a commodity they aren’t being afforded right now.

Transfer queries

They should have more than enough resources to be making the necessary moves transfer-wise, but nothing seems to be happening. We’d love to see a little bit more movement from the club because if they can’t find the answers over the course of the next few weeks, we fear they’re going to be left behind again.

That’ll open the door up for a series of clubs such as West Ham, Everton, Wolves and Leicester, all of whom will believe that they’ve got a real shot of disrupting the status quo in the top six. Of course, there’s always the possibility of them winning a cup competition, but if you want to make a real statement then a solid Premier League finish is the way to do it.
