Puerto Rico Islanders Win over San Antonio Elevates them to 1st Place with Scorpions
The Puerto Rico Islanders defeated the San Antonio Scorpions 1-0 at Bayamon Soccer Complex in Puerto Rico on Wednesday night. The Islanders’ win brought them back to the top of the standings which now sees the same two teams sharing that first place spot with the Scorpions having a game in hand.
The match was clearly delineated by a strong first half for Puerto Rico and a second half surge by San Antonio.
The Islanders outshot the Scorpions 7-3 in the first half, where San Antonio outshot their hosts 9 to 3 in the second half and forced 5 of the 6 total saves by Islanders keeper Richard Martin. But it was a first half goal by Nicholas Addlery that stuck and gave the Islanders their 8th win of the season.
Addlery’s goal came in the 25th minute when he headed in a Noah Delgado cross to give the 6’1″ forward his 6th of the season. The goal elevated him into 4th place in the NASL scoring list and his team back to 1st place in the standings.
The 3rd place Tampa Bay Rowdies take on the 4th Minnesota Stars tonight in NASL action. The Stars will play host to the Rowdies with kickoff set at 7:30 p.m. CT at the NSC Stadium in Blaine, Minnesota.

Awesome first half by the Islanders and excellent job by Sir Richard Martin at goal to save the lead. Hopefully we’ll keep seeing more goals like this from a fully recovered Nick Addlery. Can’t wait for August to come along as we return to our home Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium.
Can’t say I’m disappointed the Scorpions will be coming into Lockhart Saturday night in a short turn around and with a lot of travel included in it. LOL We need 3 points badly, and are happy to have any edge we can in getting them. It’s always tough to go to Bayamon, and Striker Likers want Lockhart to have that same reputation.
What will be the first game back at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium for the Islanders? Do they know yet?
a familiar foe:

^I hope that we lay the smack down on the Strikers that night!
@yankiboy – Prepare for a loss the first night back in your regular home! The Strikers will break that stadium in right! LOL
