Video of FOX News 9 Tim Blotz Telling Soccer Fans “Don’t Cheese Us Off”

2011 May 29
by Brian Quarstad

Thanks to Demolition Man, a regular reader and sometime commentor at IMS, for creating and uploading this video of FOX News 9 anchor Tim Blotz telling soccer fans to stop contacting the FOX 9 studio requesting that the storm coverage stop preempting the UEFA Champions League game.

Blotz evidently became very upset when soccer supporters felt that the station could at the least go to a larger screen of the game and a smaller image of the weather coverage.

“We’re going to continue our weather coverage, ALRIGHT?!?!” says a  clearly agitated Blotz in the video, who seems to talk down to his audience.  ”So I’m going to end the debate – right – there!”

“Don’t call us, don’t write to us on Facebook and don’t cheese us off. Because you know what? We’re sticking with this no matter what you say. We’re going to continue to keep our viewers safe.”

As reported here earlier today, WCCO TV carried a golf tournament during that same time period and gave their viewers updates with a scrolling ticker across the bottom of the screen.

Blotz stuck by his word and the weather coverage preempted the whole second half of the Twin Cities broadcast of the game.

FCC Licensing Agreement?? The only thing the FCC requires are those annoying buzzing alert messages. The ones they run tests of seemingly twice a week here in Florida even though they know full-well that they work fine. At some point, people dont even bother to listen to see if its a test or not, making it worthless.

First of all thanks Brian for using my video recording. I had to record it by holding my HTC Thunderbolt up to my HDTV since I no longer have an capture card installed on my PC.

I do want to ask one thing however…. what is an EUFA? ;-)

Something tells me that the meaning of “it its entirety” is not exactly clear to these folks.

Demo man. Thanks for the correction. Posted it last night and was pretty tired but wanted to get it up for this am.

I sent you a thank you email for posting the video but you are using a fake email address so it bounced.

Lastly, you may want to fix your video. It’s Blotz not Boltz or to put it in your lingo, Who is Boltz? ;)

I apologize for the e-mail issues Brian. Hopefully I got that fixed on my end. Also I got the misspelling fixed in the description and title. The video itself has his name correct. Thanks for catching that.

I think this guy needs more camera time. Maybe he should consider going to a public access channel. Back when I was a kid, they only blew the sirens when there was good reason to. It seems like the do it any time there is a cloud in the sky.

I do not think you need to qualify that with “seems”. He was talking down to his audience. What made it particularly hilarious is that he did not seem to understand that the viewers he was pretending to “keep safe” all wanted him to get the hell off the screen. You are going to get our incomprehensible weather radar and you are going to like it! Don’t make Blotz angry World Cup viewers!

If you are going to write to complain, don’t write to Fox HQ in California. You need to write to the Fox9 General Manager in Eden Prairie. This was a local decision.
I also can guarantee you that if was a big Vikings game or the Idol finale there would have been no big interruption because after all this was a big nothing of a storm. All the rotation clouds were heading toward lightly populated areas. A brief cutin every 15 minutes with a crawl and animated radar in a small bug in the corner would have sufficed.

Even better than writing to Fox to complain write to their sponsors. Telling them you are boycotting their products.

All soccer fans, please keep complaining, I am still “Cheesed”.
